Oracle Introduces Oracle Production Scheduling and Oracle Strategic Network Optimization

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Oracle (News - Alert) has released Oracle Production Scheduling and Oracle Strategic Network Optimization.

Manufacturing companies can leverage the integration of Oracle’s JD Edwards and PeopleSoft Supply Chain Planning suite with Oracle’s Supply Chain Management applications to optimize supply and distribution networks, mitigate risk, maximize shop floor throughput and reduce supply chain costs.

Oracle Strategic Network Optimization can also be leveraged by customers to simulate supply chain risk, develop long-range plans and create holistic supply strategies.

Since companies can now analyze "what-if" scenarios, such as the effects of opening or closing a distribution center or adding a new supply source, pre-emptive measures can be taken to overcome challenges that may arise and lower risks.

Oracle Strategic Network Optimization also better equips customers to address the challenges of globalization by comparing potential business scenarios such as rationalization strategies, effects of mergers and acquisitions, impact of currency fluctuations, cost of outsourcing and new transportation contracts.

This capability enables the companies to make more informed, profitable business decisions.

Manufacturers can use Oracle Production Scheduling to optimize process, semiconductor and discrete manufacturing shop floor operations through integration with Oracle Discrete Manufacturing, Oracle Process Manufacturing, and Oracle Shop Floor Management.

Highly detailed shop floor schedules can be created by the customers that automatically detect floating bottlenecks, simulate corrective actions and measure shop floor performance improvements. Companies therefore have the ability to pre-empt supply chain disruptions and enhance shop-floor efficiency and throughput while lowering cost.

According to Oracle Vice President Advanced Planning Products Nadeem Syed, companies competing in the global market place are exposed to risk at every point in their supply chain.

Syed said in a press release that by integrating functionality from the JD Edwards and PeopleSoft Supply Chain Planning suite with the Oracle E-Business Suite, they are providing customers with comprehensive tools to develop end-to-end supply chain plans that account for any number of scenarios.

Both Oracle Production Scheduling and Oracle Strategic Network Optimization can be leveraged as part of the Oracle E-Business Suite or as a stand-alone product.

Oracle was recently in news for being chosen by key healthcare organizations and retail companies in EMEA.

During the six months ended August 2006, Oracle bagged key customer contracts in the healthcare and related sectors across EMEA.

Oracle also announced key customer wins in the retail sector across EMEA. Companies such as Arnotts in Ireland, Kamal Osman Jamjoom Est. in UAE, Kingfisher plc in UK, and ReWe Group in Germany have reportedly endorsed Oracle’s strategy of choice and support.
