CLEAR 4G Mobile Internet Service Released In Las Vegas By Clearwire

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Clearwire Communications, LLC has released CLEAR’s super-fast mobile internet service in the Las Vegas region to serve around 1.7 million residents. This service enables consumers and businesses to access the internet wirelessly, at broadband speeds from anywhere in the CLEAR coverage area.

According to Jeremy Abler, general manager of Las Vegas market for Clearwire (News - Alert), CLEAR will bring to Las Vegas a fast mobile internet experience anywhere around town or on the go. Clearwire is providing a new category of internet service designed to make people’s lives more productive, wherever they happen to be in the coverage area.

CLEAR will deliver a mobile broadband internet experience with download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps and bursts over 10 mbps. CLEAR uses a 4G technology called WiMAX (News - Alert), which will provide service areas measured in miles. The CLEAR network utilizes an area-wide WiMAX radio system from Motorola in the Las Vegas region.

The innovative pricing from CLEAR provides ultimate flexibility. The mobile and residential plans can be purchased by the day or by the month, and with several “no service” contract options available. The home internet service plans start at USD 20 per month, while mobile internet plans start at USD 30 per month.

The company will be offering the Clear 4G+ mobile USB from August 1 onwards in addition to the launch of the Clear 4G service. The Clear 4G+ mobile USB is a dual-mode 4G/3G modem for customers who travel outside of CLEAR 4G coverage areas that uses Sprint’s (News - Alert) nationwide 3G network. With the introduction of the Clear Connection Manager software for Mac on August 17, owners of Apple Macintosh laptops will be able to connect to the CLEAR network using a USB modem. The software is compatible with existing Clear USB 4G WiMAX-only modems.

CLEAR offers different methods for broadband connectivity, such as plugging-in the mobile WiMAX-enabled USB modem into the mobile user’s laptop. For residential use, customers have to simply plug a wireless high-speed modem into a power outlet anywhere in their home or office and connect the modem to their PC or wireless router. Another method is the Clear Spot, which enables any Wi-Fi device to connect to CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX network. The Clear Spot will create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot that will travel with consumers anywhere within CLEAR’s mobile WiMAX service area.

Clearwire has plans to make its 4G network available in major metropolitan areas across the United States in the future. Clearwire Communications offers a suite of advanced high-speed internet services to consumers and businesses.
