Updated Quickoffice iPhone App Lets Users Open E-mail

Targeting consumers-on-the go, Dallas-based Quickoffice, a vendor of mobile office productivity software, unveiled a new upgrade to its iPhone application, Quickoffice Mobile Office Suite 1.3.



 
The latest feature lets iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod Touch users open e-mail attachments within the iPhone application, which lets people view, create, edit and share Microsoft Office files on a device.
 
In addition, the app offers free updates for the iPhone’s office applications including Quicksheet, Quickword and Quickoffice Files. It includes new features compatible with the iPhone 3.0 OS, such as cut/copy/paste and the Apple (News - Alert) 'shake method,' which evokes an undo/redo dialogue box.
 
The Quicksheet application also includes a 'find text' functionality, to make it easier to find specific words for quick editing. Other new capabilities include toggling wrapped text in cells, complete alignment control in cells and cell text overflow, the company said.
 
The application is Quickoffice’s latest attempt to target mobile professionals and users who want to access to files while on the go. The new functionality comes just three months after Quickoffice announced the app was available the iTunes App Store.
 
“The ability to open e-mail attachments within Quickoffice has been one of the most anticipated capabilities from our everyday users looking for enterprise-level office functionality on their iPhone,” said David Halpin, vice president of engineering and product development at Quickoffice, in a statement. “Working within the construct of the platform, we've developed an eloquent and easy-to-use solution that extends our file sharing capabilities for users beyond the current WiFi (News - Alert) desktop connectivity and integration with MobileMe.”

Quickoffice recently made headlines when the company it announced the industry’s first Microsoft Office viewer for the Android platform. With it, T-Mobile (News - Alert) G1 phone users can access, view and manage Word and Excel files with their mobile devices. The new viewer let users access and view .doc and .xls files sent via Gmail attachments or stored on a memory card. People can also zoom and scroll down the documents without losing the original document formatting.
 
In other news, Quickoffice recently released eOffice 4.7 for BlackBerry (News - Alert) Touch devices, including the BlackBerry Storm. The eOffice now includes a new streamlined user interface and reorganized menu structure to let mobile professionals easily access, view, edit and share files, TMCnet said.
