“Packet loss is the biggest enemy to voice quality,” Dennis Peng, vice president of product management told TMC (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani during a recent video interview. The company’s Pure Voice technology offers a way to, “dramatically improve the reliability of calls made over the Internet,” Peng explained. “It can detect packet loss on the Internet connection and can compensate for that loss by sending redundant data” so a high quality conversation can be maintained. During the interview, Peng demonstrated the company’s Telo device as well as new features including a Bluetooth adaptor that pairs a mobile phone with the Ooma device and an iPhone (News - Alert) application that makes it possible to use the Ooma device outside the home. Launched in September of last year, the Ooma Telo helps expand home phone service into, “an interactive and unified home communication platform.” “You buy the device to really save money,” Peng said. “It replaces your home phone service and allows you to make unlimited U.S. phone calls and you get caller ID, call waiting and voicemail and only have to pay applicable taxes and fees in your jurisdiction.” To find out more about the Ooma Telo, new features, and the company’s focus on voice quality, check out the video below.
