SunRocket and uReach to Deliver VoIP Messaging Service

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

VoIP-based calling service provider SunRocket has renewed its contract with uReach Technologies in order to deliver VoIP messaging services.

The contract enabled SunRocket (News - Alert) to develop its Enhanced VoiceMail feature by using uReach's Converged Services Framework. The feature allows SunRocket's subscribers to listen to their voicemail messages on the phone, online or via their PCs or laptops through e-mail. Subscribers will also be able to receive voicemail notifications on their cell phones, e-mail addresses or instant messenger (IM) screennames.

The feature includes optional voicemail boxes for each SunRocket phone number. This will allow different members of a family in a common household with an assigned SunRocket Signature Number to access his or her personal message center.

"uReach has served as a trusted partner in enabling SunRocket to deploy a rich, IP-based messaging platform to our subscribers," said SunRocket's chief technology officer Mark Fedor in a statement released on Tuesday. "By leveraging uReach's robust and scalable Converged Service Framework and innovative ValueGrow managed services program, SunRocket can deliver enhanced voicemail features that differentiate our offering from the competition. We are excited to start the next chapter in the SunRocket-uReach relationship."

uReach had scored a similar deal from SaskTel, a communications company in Saskatchewan, Canada, earlier this month. SaskTel selected uReach's sayTEXT Audio SMS product to power their new Say & Send messaging service. The sayTEXT Audio SMS product was developed for use with the uReach Converged Service Framework, which SaskTel deployed earlier in the year.

SunRocket made news last month when it announced that it tapped hosted VoIP server supplier Sylantro Systems to deploy the company's Synergy Applications Feature Server platform to service its VoIP subscriber base.

The move combined Synergy's applications-enabled architecture and a suite of application modules to allow Vienna, Virginia-based SunRocket deliver managed consumer telephony services. Synergy will provide the VoIP provider's residential subscribers with features such as call blocking, caller ID, call forwarding and distinctive ring tones.

"The Sylantro Synergy platform enables SunRocket to continue seamless delivery of a robust call feature set as we scale our residential Internet phone service subscriber base," said Mark Fedor, chief technology officer at SunRocket in a statement back then. "Synergy provides SunRocket with the reliability and robust functionality we require to provide enhanced VoIP features and services."
