Ingate Delivers the Why, What and How of SIP Trunking at ITEXPO

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

Stockholm, Sweden-based Ingate Systems, a company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets data communications products, is making its mark at TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO West.

The company’s President, Steven Johnson, will speak at four Session initiation protocol, or “SIP,” related sessions, where he will inform attendees about the benefits of SIP that aren’t available through traditional telephony communications methods or infrastructure.

The first session, “Legacy PBX/PSTN and SIP Trunking,” to be held on Wednesday, September 2 at 8:30 a.m., will discuss ways to sell SIP trunking to Legacy PSTN/PBX (News - Alert) customers.

Johnson will be joined by other industry executives from SIP Forum and Dialogic to discuss how to secure SIP trunking in specific professional environments.

According to Johnson, the adoption rate of SIP is accelerating, in particular, because the technology’s return on investment is calculable.

Johnson also said that evidence can be found in one of Ingate’s customers, who put up a multi-site call center application using SIP, and ripped out their entire telephony infrastructure - and were repaid on a $350,000 investment in less than nine months.

“So the ROI is outstanding,” said Johnson, adding that the flexibility that comes with SIP trunking is delivering more and more dynamic calling features to businesses.
The second session, “SIP Trunking and Security,” to be held on Wednesday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m., will address the security issues and preventative measures that help ensure companies SIP trunking systems are secure.

Also joining Johnson at this session are executives from VOIPSA and moderator Richard Shockey from SIP Forum (News - Alert).

One major topic Johnson will address in his sessions is SIP trunking’s best feature: its scalability. With businesses having the ability to add a single SIP trunk increment at a time, “there’s some granular scalability,” said Johnson.

“Think of what that can do for seasonal businesses, who can ramp up at peak times and then ramp down, and save money that way.”

Johnson also spoke Tuesday, September 1 at “Introduction to SIP Trunking: Live Demo: Setting Up a Secure SIP Trunk,” on the what, why and how of SIP trunks in this introductory session with a how-to on setting up a secure SIP trunk live, on-site, in 20 minutes or less.

A step-by-step overview of SIP trunking, its benefits and architecture from the service provider’s SIP trunk connection to the IP-PBX on the enterprise LAN were covered by Johnson as well as executives from Digium, ShoreTel (News - Alert) and Bandwidth.com.

In addition to these presentations, Johnson also presented during “The Enterprise Infrastructure,” session Johnson on Tuesday.
