Motorola Offers Enhanced Search with MOTOPRO Mobility Suite

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Mobile professionals who also happen to be customers of Motorola soon have increased capabilities thanks to the addition of contextual search capabilities to the company’s MOTOPRO Mobility Suite. Motorola (News - Alert) announced that these enhancements will add secure, mobile access to enterprise information.

To make search results more relevant, contextual search automatically refines them based on metadata related to things such as user location and current tasks that are bring performed.

Recently launched by Motorola, the MOTOPRO Mobility Suite provides a platform for rapid mobile application design and deployment combined with enterprise-level device security and management.

Updating the platform with contextual search capabilities will make access to ERP and CRM databases, in addition to unstructured data including email and word processor documents, easier for mobile professionals.

John DeFoe, corporate vice president Motorola Enterprise Products, noted that the world’s increasingly mobile workforces demand secure, seamless access to enterprise information that will be effective outside the office. Contextual search extensions enable efficient and intelligent mobile search capabilities that will help to improve accuracy and relevance of search results.

Defoe went on to highlight that by adding this functionality to the Mobility Suite, enterprise mobile workers can have immediate access to all the information available about their customers, products and partners from virtually any point on the globe.

By leveraging Google’s (News - Alert) “OneBox for Enterprise” feature of the Google Search Appliance, Motorola will be able to maximize usability of the solution on the Motorola Q Smartphone, HC700 rugged handheld series and other enterprise devices.

According to Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager, Google Enterprise, information access isn’t just an issue when at your desk. Google is working to make all corporate information accessible through a fast and familiar search interface and the company is pleased to work with Motorola to bring that capability to the mobile world.

Motorola has partnered with BearingPoint to identify ways to leverage the Mobility Suite to deliver business context, location and user preference requirements in order to increase relevance and accuracy in search results.

BearingPoint will also provide business systems integration and management consulting capabilities that will enhance the enterprise search solution by connecting various sources of enterprise data and manage access control profiles.

With the increasing demand for enterprise information in the field, numerous companies are stepping up to the challenge of offering solutions that will provide access to structured and unstructured sources of information. As the offerings become more abundant, so will the demand for improved functionality and capability.

Motorola is employing a smart strategy by engaging BearingPoint in its quest for market positioning as this new arena will require smart leveraging in order to gain quick adoption and market growth. Motorola has the established name and proven products, so the challenges should be easy to overcome.
