GL Announces Enhancements to VoIP Test Tool for Conformance Testing
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributing Editor
GL Communications (News - Alert) has announced enhancements to its VoIP Conformance Test Tool called Message Automation & Protocol Simulation (MAPS), a software tool designed for SIP and Megaco protocol conformance testing.
Karthik Ramalingam, senior manager of product development at GL Communications, told the press that Message Automation and Protocol simulation (MAPS) supports SIP and Megaco protocol conformance testing.
Ramalingam said MAPS can be used to simulate any interface of the VoIP network, and single MAPS can act as more than one SIP entity at a time. Moreover, it can also generate any SIP message on wire in VoIP network.
The SIP part of the application helps in testing of SIP Gateways, proxy servers, redirect servers, Registrars and user agents such as SIP phones. Ramalingam explained that test cases include general messaging and call flow scenarios for multimedia call session setup and control over IP networks.
In addition, logging and pass/fail results are also reported. He noted that MAPS - SIP Conformance Suite is designed with 300+ test cases, as per SIP specification of ETSI (News - Alert) TS 102 027-2 document.

The application gives users the unlimited ability to edit SIP messages and control scenarios. Ramalingam said that “Message sequences” are generated through scripts, and “Messages” are created using message templates.
While the Megaco part of the application is capable of testing Media Gateways (MG) and Media Gateway Controllers (MGC).
Megaco is designed for MEGACO testing that provides MEGACO test library capable of testing Media Gateways (MG) and Media Gateway (News - Alert) Controllers (MGC).
The test library includes test functions to generate MEGACO messages, edit messages, simulates a variety of call flows, and control scenarios.
Ramalingam said that the MAPS - MEGACO Conformance Suite tool is designed with 300+ test cases, as per specification of ETSI TS 102 374-2 document. The test suite includes in-built scripts to process MEGACO valid and in-valid behaviours.
