Cisco Announces iPhone, iPad App

By Alice Straight, TMCnet Web Editor

Cisco (News - Alert) has announced its Quad application for the iPhone and iPad, which runs on iOS 4, to help mobile workers stay connected to their offices and co-workers.

"Cisco's vision for a new work space is about empowering organizations with a broader range of collaborative experiences," said Tony Bates (News - Alert), Cisco's senior vice president and general manager for enterprise, commercial and small business in a statement.
Cisco Quad allows workers to receive specific job information automatically, reducing the time employees waste in trying to find the right person, document or data for a particular job. The application allows for "enterprise collaboration that integrates voice, video and social networking into one work space,' according to the company.
The first look at the Cisco Quad, along with its innovative new video and web conferencing technology, will happen at the Enterprise 2.0 show in Boston. The company plans on releasing the application to the public this fall.
Cisco also unveiled a new Cisco Prosumer Video solution that integrates Cisco FocalPoint (News - Alert), an online video workspace, with a business-class Cisco Flip MinoPRO camcorder. Finally, Cisco announced that Cisco WebEx Connect IM is now available on any supported browser.
"More than 90 percent of organizations now consider themselves 'virtual,' with work groups physically separated across offices, regions or continents. Couple this with the speed of today's global economy, and the result is a need to rapidly support interaction-oriented collaboration," said Irwin Lazar, vice president of communications and collaboration at Nemertes Research. "We see rapid growing interest in, and adoption of, solutions including social media, video, and content sharing, to enable globally dispersed workforces to securely collaborate productively, within and across firewalls from both desktops and mobile devices."
