CommuniGate Intros AstraSync for BlackBerryBy Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor CommuniGate Systems, a developer of carrier-class Unified Communications (News - Alert) and media delivery software for broadband and mobile operators to deliver value-added services and SaaS solutions, today revealed the availability of AstraSync for CommuniGate Pro.
Created by MailSite Software, AstraSync is the industry's first and only ActiveSync client for BlackBerry (News - Alert) smartphones.
With AstraSync, smartphone users gain two-way, over-the-air synchronization of e-mail, calendar and contact data. In addition, it is the first software product to synchronize a BlackBerry through a secure connection directly to a customer's CommuniGate Pro server. This eliminates the need to acquire and deploy middleware servers from RIM and other software developers.
This solution provides the same ActiveSync functionality to BlackBerry smartphones that is built-in to the Apple iPhone (News - Alert) 3G and Windows Mobile devices.
AstraSync is currently available exclusively from CommuniGate Systems (News - Alert) and CommuniGate Systems authorized resellers for use with installations of the CommuniGate Pro platform.
It can be installed over-the-air and delivers a simple configuration wizard for the username, password and address of the CommuniGate Pro server. After the initial configuration, AstraSync operates silently in the background on the BlackBerry and synchronizes the user's e-mail, calendar and contacts through a secure connection to the CommuniGate Pro server.
Updates on the server are immediately pushed over-the-air to the BlackBerry and changes on the BlackBerry are sent back to the CommuniGate Pro server. AstraSync integrates with native BlackBerry calendar and contact applications and works without the BlackBerry Internet Service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server options from RIM. This makes it easier for enterprises and carriers to deploy BlackBerry Smartphones in diverse environments alongside Windows Mobile and iPhone devices.
"We see a growing demand for comprehensive mobile access solutions in the enterprise and carrier markets," said Azdio Ballesteros, commercial director of CommuniGate Systems. "We are excited to now offer not only native AirSync support for mobile devices like the iPhone 3G, but to also make the same access convenient for users of BlackBerry Smartphones."
"With this partnership AstraSync will broaden its market share with the carriers, traditional service providers, and enterprise customers served by CommuniGate Pro," says John Davies, founder and president of MailSite Software. "AstraSync for CommuniGate Pro offers a simplified architecture with higher security and improves reliability.”
