Palantiri Intros Next-Generation Device Connectivity Platform

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Palantiri Systems, Inc reportedly has unveiled its first remote device connectivity platform that unites the power of social networking with always-on device connectivity remote device.

The new service helps companies to build branded, device-aware, Web 2.0 communities for their customers and even strengthen their market leadership by creating engaged customers, which will in turn increase the revenue through innovative, device-centric service offerings.

This software is available through a hosted, Software-as-a-Service offering from the company.

Palantiri Systems’ next generation platform allows remote equipment such as medical diagnostic devices, industrial equipment, and building automation systems to become active participants in corporate social networks through blogs; by sharing files; publishing status and alerts; or by participating in chat and forum discussions, and act as key data sources for any enterprise application.

“Our platform redefines device connectivity for the OEM, providing real-time, always-on access to devices and device data within a collaboration environment that is fully integrated with the existing enterprise,” said John Canosa, President and CEO of Palantiri Systems. “Our customers have demanded a simple, scalable, and open device connectivity platform, and this solution delivers that for them.”

Here’s how the company diagrams the platform:

The company’s new open, extensible agent and hosted collaboration uses the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, the open standard for Instant Messaging used by Internet companies such as Google (News - Alert), Apple, IBM, and Cisco.

Palantiri’s community includes people, enterprise applications, and devices that can easily interact with one another using XMPP. Additionally, the platform’s open, gadget-based interface allows OEMs to easily create value-added applications and mashups that promote engagement with their customers.

Canosa said, “This platform gives them a simple, secure device interface and application widget model that allows creation of vertical market specific solutions without having to worry about the underlying connectivity model.”

Company says that the new solution is ideal for a manufacturer who thrives for a new approach that gives them real-time access to device information while letting them differentiate their Smart Service offerings.
