GTalk2VoIP and Talkster Partner to Launch FreeRinger, Web-Based Free Calling Apps

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributing Editor

GTalk2VoIP, an open voice gateway for major Instant Messenger clients, announced the launch of FreeRinger, a web-based telephone service which allows one to place free international calls from a PC-to-phone to more than 35 countries.

The calls can be placed on both mobile and landline phones and is absolutely free for callers. There is no limit on the duration of the call either. However, there is a charge for the recipient of the call which is the same as a local call.

Powered by Talkster (News - Alert), FreeRinger is a web-based Flash application and hence does not require any software download or installation provided the user has Adobe Flash. For those users without Adobe Flash, a simple download that works with all Internet browsers on PC, Mac and Linux computers will immediately enable FreeRinger to work.

FreeRinger is also available as a widget which means bloggers and web designers can offer the FreeRinger service to their sites’ readers and customers. A special hyperlink makes placing calls from FreeRinger as simple as clicking from a webpage. Revenue is ad-supported.

“Providing a completely free web-based solution to people who spend a fortune in long distance calls is just another way we are increasing the value of what we offer to our customers,” said Ruslan Zalata, founder of GTalk2VoIP.

“Our partnership with Talkster has made this possible and we will continue to work towards providing free, useful and easy to use solutions to our valued users through the development of solutions such as FreeRinger.”

To start using FreeRinger, register the computer, once registered, dial the international number. The system generates and assigns a new Talkster number for the dialed number. Once connected, the dialer gets 10 seconds to tell the receiver to call right back on their talkster number while the dialer stays on hold and waits for them to dial in.

“FreeRinger is a perfect example of how Talkster’s calling platform can be easily integrated to provide free voice communications to online communities and instant messaging services,” said Talkster CTO, Mark Gelman. “This ‘plug and call’ PC-to-phone service is the first of its kind, allowing for free dialing without the need for additional downloads, right from your web browser.”

Talkster’s number is a permanent phone number and is conveyed to the receiver through a SMS message sent during the subscription process or through the CallerID number displayed at the time of call.
