Cloud Telephony Provider Ifbyphone Acquires Cloudvox, Strengthens Services

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

Cloud telephony provider, Ifbyphone, while attending TMC’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) East in Miami, announced its acquisition of Cloudvox, a standards-based phone services provider.

Currently known for its suite of Web configured and customizable phone applications, the acquisition gives Ifbyphone (News - Alert) another niche in the telecom industry: the position as a leading application developer with Cloudvox’s Asterisk open-source phone server offering.

This announcement proves that Ifbyphone is solidifying itself in the market space and evoling in to a larger and more diverse company.

Ifbyphone’s CEO, Irv Shapiro, told TMC (News - Alert) in an interview today at the ITEXPO East in Miami that despite it being an unknown fact, when the company originated in 2007, Ifbyphone began as a two person company. And since then – and now with the Cloudvox acquisition – the Ifbyphone team has expanded to 40 employees.

Now with the Cloudvox agreement, Ifbyphone offers three primary services including the capability to buy or rent a premade telephony application, outbound interactive voice response, or “IVR,” and the use of any other Ifbyphone services, companies can integrate their business and improve productivity.

“With the Cloudvox acquisition, [the company’s] technology will allow us to provide that third capability to our customer [to help them] build their own application using that infrastructure,” Shapiro said.
“Even more exciting is the way the technology works and the way people are experimenting today [with] building the application for themselves,” Shapiro added.

Projecting over 100 million minutes of phone calls in 2010, compared to the 25 million Ifbyphone had in 2009, and a mere couple thousand in 2007, the Cloudvox acquisition has definitely put the cloud telephony provider on the right track to achieving its goals.

“By acquiring Cloudvox, we're sending a message to businesses of every size: If you're interested in using telephone applications to automate sales, marketing, business processes, and Web applications, we're the place to start,” Shapiro said in a press release.

According to officials, the addition of Cloudvox positions Ifbyphone as the only cloud telephony provider that enables customers to rent a phone-based application, integrate with an existing Ifbyphone app, or build a custom applications.

“Businesses can rent an existing application from us and tightly integrate their business with that app,” Shapiro said. “Or they can now use Cloudvox to build their own portable, open application from scratch and still take advantage of our cloud infrastructure and phone expertise.”

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
