Dialogic to Leverage Ingate SIP Trunking for 'Any to Any' PBX Connectivity

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Dialogic Corporation, a provider of products and technologies for media and signal processing, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Ingate Systems under which Dialogic will incorporate Ingate’s SIP Trunking software module into a new enterprise border element meant to connect any SIP trunk with any PBX (News - Alert).

The use of Ingate’s SIP Trunking software will allow seamless SIP trunk deployments in legacy TDM and hybrid PBX environments, as well as new SIP-based PBX systems, company officials said.

The marriage between the two companies reflects a growing trend of PBX’s transitioning from a traditional TDM PBX’s more to a hybrid PBX’s, IP-PBX, or Unified Communications solutions, Dialogic said.

Bud Walder (News - Alert), director of product marketing for Dialogic’s enterprise market group, said Dialogic and Ingate worked together over the last year with its two separate devices. Yet, early on, company officials saw the benefits and the synergies of putting those two functionalities into a product.

“We had a gap within our portfolio around two places - SIP to SIP interoperability and around the security at the enterprise edge,” Walder told TMCnet in an interview. “We started to add SIP to SIP interoperability, but Ingate was ahead of us on that.”

Ingate SIP Trunking software offers enterprise session border control and advanced routing capabilities to connect SIP trunks to enterprise networks and branch offices by using Ingate’s proxy-based traversal and security technology. The software also resolves interoperability issues between service providers’ SIP services and the SIP based systems that are deployed inside corporate data networks.

Dialogic’s (News - Alert) media gateway technologies give users the protocols and interfaces needed to connect with a variety of legacy telephony equipment and networks - TDM and IP. Dialogic’s new enterprise border element will combine the functions in a media gateway and an enterprise session border controller into a single product. The result, according to company officials, will be a new solution that will connect any trunk with any PBX, virtually. The end result will help resolve connectivity issues, company officials said.

Steven Johnson, president of Ingate Systems (News - Alert), said Dialogic operates in a “tangential space” with Ingate, so a partnership was ideal.

“There is a great deal of synergy,” Johnson said. “The ability for us to bring this solution set together helps our customers and helps customers that were going to Dialogic. In today’s recessionary economy, the mindset remains that this gives people an opportunity to extend the useful life of their PBX and also gain the benefits of SIP Trunking and cost savings.”

Walder likened the partnership to the making of a Reece’s peanut butter cup.

“It’s our great chocolate and their great peanut butter [put together] to make something that is three times as good,” he said.

Dialogic plans to make a first set of enterprise border elements available later this year with product configurations offering SIP Trunking legacy PBX connectivity via PRI/E1/T1 and ISDN BRI, the company said.

To hear more about the topic, Dialogic will be presenting the “Legacy PBX/PSTN and SIP Trunking” session with Ingate at the SIP Trunk Summit at ITEXPO East 2010, on Jan. 21, at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Fla.
