Ericsson Deploys and Integrates Transport Network for Mobiltel in Bulgaria
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Ericsson ( News - Alert) will deploy and integrate its latest microwave transmission solution, MINI-LINK TN, for Bulgarian mobile operator Mobiltel. The new contract will enable the operator to reduce both capital and operational expenditure.
Ericsson will provide the design, deployment and integration of the transmission network as well as support services for MINI-LINK TN software and hardware. Since the microwave transmission solution provides extra backhaul capacity in the existing transport network, it will be easier to add more capacity as needed through the use of Soft Keys.
Mobiltel can thus add new subscribers to its WCDMA network and reduce operational costs. Thanks to MINI-LINK TN Mobiltel can now introduce mobile broadband and new bandwidth-intensive services at a lower cost. The operator will also be able to expand transport capacity and increase network control and flexibility.
The flexibility of the system ensures smooth migration from voice to data and both circuit and packet traffic is handled efficiently. The company points out that this will pave the way for mobile broadband services that combine TV with voice and data.
“Ericsson’s MINI-LINK TN enhances our traffic control and manageability, and at the same time gives substantial savings in site accommodation costs,” said Josef Vinatzer, CEO of Mobiltel in a statement to the press.
“The deployment will give us the opportunity to continue growing our subscriber base and to develop new data-intensive and multimedia services,” he added.
