snom and Digium Simplify Phone Deployments for SMB

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

snom technology AG’s VoIP phones are becoming more accessible and even easier to deploy in the small-to-medium sized business (SMB) space with the recent release of Digium’s (News - Alert) Switchvox SMB 4.0.

The partnership between the German-based VoIP phone maker and Digium, the Asterisk Company, allows Switchvox (News - Alert), a Web-aware IP PBX, to automatically detect and provision snom 3 series phones including its recently released 820 phone.

In turn, this latest teaming reduces setup time and allows businesses to “easily and inexpensively” deploy phones to the desktop, according to Bill Miller, vice president of product management at Digium.

“Digium and snom have a strong history of partnership and innovation that makes it easy for the business community to use Asterisk and snom together,” said Miller. “Now this extends through to the latest version of Switchvox SMB, and is especially important in the European market, where snom holds a particularly strong position.”

As TMCnet recently reported, the snom 820 combines the latest technology and established snom features, including its large high-resolution TFT color display (3.5”, 320 x 240 pixels) that offers a clear depiction of call lists, phone directories and caller information via the integrated XML browser.

The snom lineup is tailored to the SMB space through its desktop and wireless devices that are built to combine the latest technology with innovative designs which includes its new m3 wireless mobile device that leverages new technology to offer clear voice and strong data transmissions.

“snom and Digium have a long and strong relationship in ensuring that our products work well together,” said Michael Knieling (News - Alert), sales and marketing director for snom. “Our goal is not only to make the products interoperate, but to take full advantage of all that Switchvox has to offer.”

snom recently extended the reach of its IP communications solutions to the SMB market through the ADTRAN (News - Alert) Alliance Program, announcing snom’s m3 IP DECT phone is now interoperable within the ADTRAN Alliance Program. ADTRAN is a supplier of networking and communications solutions.

For its part, the Switchvox SMB is designed for businesses that want a full-featured voice over IP phone system for hundreds of employees per server at a reduced cost compared to traditional PBXs, according to Digium.

Tom Keating: CTO, vice president and founder of TMC (News - Alert) Labs, recently discussed on his blog the  Switchvox SMB 4.0 including the power and functionality of Asterisk and the advanced administrative features and close integration with several communications methods and the Web.
