Esnatech Launches Mobile UC Client Software for the Google Android OS

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

No doubt you’ve been hearing lots of announcements about the Motorola DROID and other handsets fueled by Android, Google’s (News - Alert) super-hot operating system.

On the business end, too, there’s also a rise in Android-related news. The latest: A company called Esna Technologies (Esnatech), which makes enterprise communications software, has just launched a version of its mobile unified communications software for Google Android (News - Alert) OS devices.

The Mobile UC software, Mobile UC Client reportedly delivers fixed to mobile convergence for a wide range of wireless devices with enterprise PBX systems such as Cisco (News - Alert), Avaya, Mitel, Nortel, Iwatsu, AASTRA, 3COM, Asterisk, eOn and Teltronics. It provides a complete communications and collaboration solution for mobile users; integrating presence, messaging, mobility and computer telephony to users over their mobile devices.

Representatives at Esnatech said the integration of unified communications with these wireless devices will dramatically increase the ability of mobile users to connect to their office and be able to communicate as if they were at their desk. Esnatech has released a version specifically for Google Android (Droid) users so they can link their devices to their office telephone system and leverage the mobile device as their office communication device.

“With the release of our newest Mobile UC Client software for Google Android, we provide enterprises the opportunity to offer full enterprise communications to Google Android users,” said Davide Petramala, vice president of development for Esnatech.

Meanwhile, other companies in the mobile UC space focusing on the Android platform are banding together.

Recently, mobile UC provider D2 Technologies (News - Alert) announced the launch of the Open Embedded Software Foundation working group established to enhance Android for IP communications by defining standard extensions and APIs to deliver support for new unified communications modes such as VoIP, video calling, instant messaging and presence.

“In this working group, D2, other industry leaders and OESF members will develop and promote the adoption of IP communications and VoIP extensions to the Android framework so that new communication modes can be easily accommodated,” said Doug Makishima (News - Alert), COO of D2 Technologies and coordinator of the OESF IP Communications Working Group. “By focusing our work group on the IP communications needs of new products and devices such as IP media phones, digital photo frames, MIDs, DTV/STBs and connected home products, we can help the OESF achieve its overarching goal of moving the Android platform beyond mobile phones to many different embedded applications and electronics devices for consumers, carriers and enterprises.”
