NTT America, OpSource Forge Cloud Computing Partnership

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

NTT (News - Alert) America and OpSource recently announced a new partnership that will accelerate the adoption enterprise cloud computing.

By powering OpSource Cloud through NTT America’s (News - Alert) secure data centers and Tier-1 global IP network, enterprises are expected to have the flexibility, availability and community of the public cloud, plus the security, performance and control elements they require.

OpSource Cloud brings together the flexibility, availability and community of the public cloud with the security, performance and control the enterprise requires.

By combining the collaborative strength of OpSource Cloud with NTT America’s enterprise services, companies can deploy a powerful cloud “solution” via what NTT calls the most secure data centers and the most reliable and scalable network available.

“Our portfolio of infrastructure assets gives us the opportunity to provide the most flexible allocation of those assets for our customers,” said Kazuhiro Gomi (News - Alert), chief operating officer of NTT America. “The combination of OpSource Cloud and NTT America’s global IP network and data centers removes barriers that are keeping enterprises from adopting cloud computing, giving them a solution that is not only reliable and secure but scalable.”

Agatha Poon, a senior analyst with Yankee Group (News - Alert), noted that although economic is the driving force to create disciplines needed to properly move IT resources and applications into the cloud, initiatives are unlikely to get funded if they fail to meet enterprise expectations in terms of security, performance and control.

“The reliability and performance of IP networks plays a critical role in maximizing the value of cloud computing because IP networks connect users to the cloud, delivering dynamic, on-demand services and applications to a diverse set of users,” Poon said. “Thus, the reliability and security of the network will become more critical than ever.”

OpSource Cloud is designed to allow IT departments to manage their security as they would within their internal IT infrastructure. OpSource Cloud provides users with their own Virtual Private Cloud within the public cloud. This, in turn, allows them determine their own degree of Internet connectivity.

For users weaned on the public cloud experience, OpSource Cloud offers online sign-up, pay-by-the-hour usage, and rich online communities.

“Offering OpSource Cloud on NTT America’s infrastructure lets us bring our customers a tried-and-true network already being used by some of the largest Internet companies in the world,” said Treb Ryan, CEO at OpSource. “NTT America’s market-leading position helps reassure enterprises that their data is in the best hands possible and, working together, we will help these companies usher in the new era of enterprise cloud computing.”
