MERA Systems Softswitches Now Fully Interoperable with Audiocodes MediaPack and Mediant Series Gateways

By Patrick Barnard, Senior Web Editor, TMCnet

MERA Systems (News - Alert) announced today that, having completed testing, its Class 4/5 VoIP transit softswitches are now fully interoperable with AudioCodes’ MediaPack and Mediant series VoIP gateways.

The two companies have been partnering for quite some time and are continuously upgrading interoperability between their products as new releases are brought to market. The recently-completed round of testing ensures interoperability between MERA’s VoIP Softswitches and AudioCodes (News - Alert) media gateways in terms of specific functions such as registration, call handling, DTMF transmission and T.38 real time fax.

“Full interoperability between AudioCodes gateways and MERA softswitches gives carriers an opportunity to use AudioCodes best-of-breed VoIP gateways in residential, enterprise and SIP trunking environments,” said Alex Levin, vice president of sales, Russia, CIS and Israel, in a release. “It means that service providers and transit carriers will have more choices when it comes to deploying services based on AudioCodes gateways.”

MERA Systems’ VoIP transit softswitches enable carriers and service providers to efficiently handle large amounts of IP telephony transit traffic across their networks. Key benefits of MERA Systems’ products include real-time LCR and profitability control, prepaid and postpaid billing, codec conversion, throughput of up to 1000 calls per second and elaborate quality-based routing.

Meanwhile, AudioCodes’ Mediant media gateways are designed for service providers and enterprises seeking reliable, high quality media gateway platforms that can interconnect with the most popular softswitches, application servers, IP-PBXs and other standards-based VoIP elements.

The AudioCodes’ MediaPack series of analog VoIP gateways offer superior voice technology for connecting legacy telephones, fax machines and PBX (News - Alert) systems with IP-based telephony networks, as well as integration with new IP-based PBX systems. These gateways are interoperable with the softswitches, SIP servers and H.323 gatekeepers of the leading manufacturers.

Interoperability between MERA Systems softswitches and the AudioCodes MediaPack and Mediant series was achieved using the SIP control protocol.

MERA Systems made news on TMCnet earlier this month when it announced that it had successfully completed interoperability testing between MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Pro (MVTS Pro) and the Dialogic (News - Alert) IMG 1010 Media Gateway by Dialogic Corporation.
