Yours Truly probably first heard about MERA Systems  in 2004, when they announced that Maximus Telecom, a Quebec-based wholesaler, had deployed MERA’s MVTS session controller for enhanced voice services in the region.

What impressed me about the MVTS at the time was its ability to do smart routing, session control, detailed call statistics and CDR collection, SIP/H.323 interworking and much more. Furthermore, their then-just-released NAT Traversal module enabled the MVTS to interconnect with customer SIP and H.323 endpoints deployed behind corporate NAT/firewalls.

 

Recently, MERA Systems (News - Alert) announced that they had successfully completed interoperability testing between MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Pro (MVTS Pro) and the Dialogic IMG 1010 Media Gateway (News - Alert) by Dialogic Corporation.

 

Dialogic, of course, was the biggest name in the world of computer telephony in the 1990s, and it remains a global provider of world-class products and technologies for media and signal processing, and is something of a bellwether of the telecom industry.

 

 The origins of the IMG 1010 Media Gateway go back several years to the Excel Switching (News - Alert) Corporation.
