Mitel: Better Business Processes Possible with IP Telephony and Presence Technology
By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor
Efficient business processes are the lynchpin of any successful company. After all, connecting the right people with the right information at the right time can mean the difference between making or losing a sale, or keeping or losing a strategic business partner.
Communications technology—phone, e-mail, fax, etc.—is a key part of efficient business processes. Yet with existing technologies in place, there may be times during the business day when it simply isn’t possible to locate information or people when they are most needed.
But what if that was no longer the case? What if, for example, you could simply look on your computer screen and see that salesperson John Smith is in a meeting right now, but has asked that he be interrupted via IM or his cell phone when Corporation XYZ (on the line now) calls? Having such information, exactly when you need it, could very well have real and significant impact on the bottom line.
The type of functionality described above is available now, for companies of all sizes. This topic—how IP telephony and presence can positively affect business processes—is discussed in a new white paper from Mitel ( News - Alert), “Business Process Improvement: Dramatically Enhance Business Performance with IP Communications.”
In the white paper, Mitel describes a new generation of communications tools that have come around just in time to help businesses grappling with the realities of the global economy. Further, Mitel shows how converged communications (tying together telephone systems and Internet technology) meets the needs of a mobile workforce, ensuring that every employee is accessible anywhere and at any time.
All of this may sound very well and good, but does it apply to your business? Can your business afford the new technology? Mitel suggests that your business can’t afford not to adopt the new communications tools available.
“The business case for moving to an integrated IP communications solution is irrefutable,” Mitel said in its white paper. “The challenge facing business executives today is how to rethink their business processes and strategies to make the most of these innovations.”
