FileMaker Releases Bento 3 for Mac, iPhone and iPod Touch

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

FileMaker, which offers database software solutions, announced the immediate availability of Bento 3, the latest version of the popular personal database for Mac, iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod touch devices.

Bento 3 integrates with iPhoto from Apple, which allows users to store more information about their photos and link them to contacts, projects, events and other information stored in Bento.

Officials say that Bento 3 is a powerful, easy way to bring together all of the key Mac information and photos users have.

“With Bento 3, we’re providing new ways for you to view and interact with your information so you can organize contacts, projects, events and even more details of your life,” said Ryan Rosenberg, vice president, marketing and services for FileMaker.

Bento 3 allows users to share information with up to five Bento users the same way they share iTunes and iPhotos over a local area network using Apple’s (News - Alert) Bonjour technology.

Users can also encrypt any field and assign passwords to secure their information in Bento 3.

Bento 3 also features a Grid view to display thumbnails of photos, text and numeric-based information, while improved “File” lists show image thumbnails instead of just text.

Users can choose from 35 pre-designed, ready-to use templates, including the 10 new templates for popular uses such as wine collecting, job hunting, home searching, vacation planning and more. Plus, the recently introduced Bento Template Exchange gives users the opportunity to download hundreds of templates designed by Bento users.

FileMaker reported it has already received positive feedbacks from some of the early users of Bento 3. Users were particularly interested in the features such as grid view, iPhoto integration, and sync with libraries.

FileMaker has announced several discounts for existing users of Bento 1 and Bento 2 as well as new customers. The company also plans to launch Bento 1.0.3 for iPhone and iPod touch, which resolves compatibility issues related to Bento 3 for Mac.

FileMaker is a subsidiary of Apple. Apart from Bento, the company also offers FileMaker Pro line, a versatile database software solution for teams and organizations, for Windows, Mac and the Web.
