RADVISION Announces Interoperable, Multi-Vendor Conferencing Solution

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

While there are several conferencing solutions in the market, very few of them offer the multi-vendor support and interoperability that would allow multi-party communications between different vendors' telepresence systems in addition to standards-based video conferencing endpoints.

As a revolutionary step in this line, RADVISION, a provider of technology and solutions for unified visual communications over IP and 3G networks, announced what the company calls "the most interoperable, multi-vendor, multi-stream telepresence conferencing solution in the market."

The new telepresence solution, the SCOPIA Elite MCU, can establish connections with telepresence systems from Cisco (News - Alert), Logitech/LifeSize, Polycom and Tandberg, allowing telepresence users to view all meeting participants in a multi-party call, including those on traditional video conferencing systems or telepresence systems from other vendors, company officials said.

With the new system, users with traditional video conferencing systems will see the telepresence participants in a special video layout where multiple video streams from a telepresence endpoint are combined into a single widescreen image. Telepresence (News - Alert) users will also see other conference participants in a special video layout, adding to the telepresence immersive video experience.

According to Roberto Giamagli, general manager, Networking Business Unit of RADVISION, SCOPIA Elite MCU, provides significant opportunities for enterprises and service providers to cost effectively deliver multi-party communications for telepresence along with interoperability while retaining the telepresence multi-stream experience.

SCOPIA Elite leverages the latest in high performance DSP technology and offers 1080p video capabilities yielding uncompromised high definition multi-party support, company officials said.

Telepresence capabilities on the SCOPIA Elite MCU are enabled through a license key. The new SCOPIA Elite telepresence capability will be available in the third quarter as a software upgrade and will be demonstrated at the InfoComm 2010 Exposition in Las Vegas, June 9-11, the company said.
