OWIkit Designs Educational Solar Building Kit for Children

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributing Editor

OWIKit has announced the release of a newly designed 6 in 1 Educational solar building kit that will provide a fun way for kids to learn about robots and solar power.

The kit has been added to their Mini-Solar line and they have also released a USB Interface Kit for their Robotic Arm Edge.

OWIKits’ parent company, OWI Incorporated, was looking for a way to expand its consumer product lines and developed Robotikits to bring its extensive technology background to the educational community.

According to company officials, the newest member of their mini-solar building line, the 6 in 1 Educational Solar Kit, is a beginner kit designed to teach how solar power drives a small motor.

With the offering, children use the 21 snap-together parts (no tools required) to construct six different working models: an airboat, car, windmill, puppy and two different planes.

“OWIKits are award winning, educational products that teach the basics of robotics, electronics, and alternative energy. The kits come in four levels of difficulty and are suitable for ages nine and older. Kids have fun building race cars, Viking ships, robotic insects and more while they gain a better understanding of basic scientific principles,” remarked Craig Morioka, President of OWIKit.

“Our kits are designed to involve, engage and educate. Being able to say ‘I built this myself’ gives kids a great sense of accomplishment,” he added.

Their other product, the Robotic Arm Edge, is a tool designed to acquaint students with gears, wiring and motors and at the same time, offering them the fun of a fully functional robotic arm.

With the offering, users can command the gripper to open and close or rotate in a variety of base elbow or wrist type directions and the Arm can lift and carry up to 100 grams of weight.

With the new USB Interface Kit, the Robotic Arm Edge can be connected to a PC and users can have real-time manual control of the robotic arm and program the arm to perform a sequence of movements just like an actual robot on an assembly line. The USB Interface Kit comes complete with a CD, printed circuit board, USB cable and accessories, and a detailed instruction manual.

The Mini-Solar line of building kits are SRP $10.95 to $19.95. The Robotic Arm Edge is SRP $53.95 and its new USB interface accessory kit is SRP $39.95.
