CouponCodes4u.com Survey: Americans Willing to Go into Debt for the iPhone5

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

With the iPhone (News - Alert) 5 slated for release, consumers are eagerly looking forward to getting their hands on the latest generation of the iPhone. CouponCodes4u.com asked consumers just how far they would go to get the iPhone 5, conducting a survey of 1,909 Apple (News - Alert)-using Americans.

The results revealed a great deal about the purchasing habits of Apple users. Of those surveyed, 34 percent indicated that they had spent more than $1,000 on Apple products and accessories. Eighty-one percent of them indicated that they have had to purchase Apple releases on credit and 51 percent indicated that they had used a credit card or gotten a loan so that they could be among the early adopters of iPads and iPhones.

When asked whether or not they could afford the iPhone 5 and the upgrade fees from their mobile provider, 71 percent of those surveyed said that they could not. They were not, however, deterred: 53 percent indicated that they were “likely” to buy the iPhone 5 regardless.

CouponCodes4u delved deeper into the psyche of Apple customers, asking why they were willing to go into debt for Apple products. Fifty-seven percent admitted that they felt “left out” if they did not have the newest Apple product; 45 percent said that they liked having it; and 39 percent indicated that they loved Apple products. The Chairman of CouponCodes4u, Mark Pearson, said that he was “shocked” by “how many Americans freely admit that they are willing to spend their way into debt by buying Apple gadgets that they simply cannot afford.” He went on to note that the survey shows how many Americans are living with debt and to advise consumers that they could purchase the latest Apple products and other tech gadgets through CouponCodes4u at discounted prices that would not necessitate going into debt.

With Apple users being as fiercely loyal to the company and as eager for new releases as they are, the results were, in many ways, unsurprising. In other ways, after the disappointing iPhone 4, it is surprising that people are still as willing to go into debt for a new generation of Apple phone. CouponCodes4u made one thing clear: the iPhone 5 will be flying off of the shelves, whether or not consumers can afford it.
