Cox Communications, a multiservice broadband company with more than 6.6 million customers — including more than one million Triple Play customers — has chosen Juniper Networks’ routers to expand its network. As the second phase of its national backbone evolution, Cox is upgrading its entire core network with Juniper Networks T-series core routing platforms to increase scalability and performance.
Cox is looking to leverage the capabilities of Juniper’s M- and T-Series routers to provide a seamless, nationwide network for the delivery of data, voice, video and other critical applications to Cox customers.
Juniper Networks’ products have previously been deployed by Cox, when the broadband supplier installed Juniper routing platforms to support multiple applications including peering, Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) aggregation, high-speed Internet, and video in its metro core networks.
Cox is now upgrading to T640 core routers to ensure compliance with stricter SLAs as services and content continue to become more advanced — cutting-edge real-time services like video and voice require better performance, greater reliability, and QoS assurance.
Cox also relies on a range of Juniper Networks security solutions, including the Juniper Networks Integrated Security Gateways (ISG) and a full spectrum of appliances ranging from the NetScreen-5GT to the NetScreen-208. These security measures support the managed security service offered by Cox Business Services, the company's commercial services division. The security solutions also protect key elements of Cox’s IP/MPLS backbone and provide site-to-site IP VPNs.
“Since 2001, Juniper Networks has consistently delivered advanced capabilities, performance, and the reliability Cox customers expect. We are pleased to continue this relationship as we evolve our nationwide broadband network,” said Jay Rolls, vice president of Telephone and Data Engineering, Cox Communications. “Continuing to upgrade the national backbone enables us to effectively support demanding applications for our customers such as advanced video and voice over IP.”
These upgrades are a necessity for Cox as it strives to maintain its reputation and place in the market. According to the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2005 ISP Residential Customer Satisfaction Study, Cox received the highest score for Overall Customer Satisfaction among high-speed Internet service providers worldwide. Its Performance and Reliability score was bested only by Verizon.
Juniper Networks will also provide maintenance, service, and support for the routing platforms.
