Abu Dhabi Police Choose Cisco Unified Communications

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The Abu Dhabi Police has chosen Cisco and has deployed Cisco unified communications technology solutions at its headquarters.

Cisco Unified Communications (News - Alert) delivers a high quality, highly secure experience across any workspace, according to company officials.

To provide better public services, the Abu Dhabi Police service is using the latest innovations including the deployment of latest Cisco (News - Alert) unified communications and collaboration solutions. To be able to deploy more services and applications, the police service needed a flexible, scalable and highly secure infrastructure. Also, simplifying management and reducing the necessary equipment, Cisco unified communications solutions help to improve workforce productivity and lower the cost of operating branch offices.

“As the UAE continues to build a world-class city, Cisco supports the UAE in delivering world-class citizen services,” stated Wayne Hull, director and general manager for Cisco, UAE. “Cisco is helping Abu Dhabi Police to take a holistic approach to achieving a highly secure communications environment by providing the strategies, tools and resources needed. Our technology solutions will enable the Abu Dhabi Police service to improve its information management processes.”

To encompass document and text-based applications such as e-mail and instant messaging, as well as team workspaces and voice and video conferencing in a way that matches each individual's needs, the Cisco solutions will help broaden the scope of collaboration within the police service. The aim is to consolidate all the police's branch and the headquarters infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi into a single unified IP telephony system with IP telephony being the first phase of this deployment.

Recently, the company announced that its Internet Routing in Space (IRIS) technology, a program to build a radiation-tolerant IP router for satellite and related spacecraft, has achieved another major milestone with the successful completion of in-orbit testing for the United States’ Department of Defense. The IRIS router supports network services for voice, video and data communications, helping enable government agencies, military units and allied forces to communicate with one another.
