By Barkha Bathwal, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Freescale Semiconductor (News - Alert) choses SPIRIT’s Audio Engine for quad-core, programmable digital signal processor (DSP) chips.

Freescale Semiconductor reportedly has chosen SPIRIT’s Audio Engine to support audio on Freescale’s quad-core, programmable digital signal processor chips.

“Carriers require sophisticated platforms that provide high-quality voice, video and data content and services from anywhere in the world. Our high-performance DSPs are designed to thrive in rapidly expanding multi-channel packaged media and wireless markets. Combined with SPIRIT solutions, our DSPs are designed to help network operators deliver high quality triple-play services throughout the end user’s home,” said Scott Aylor, director of DSP products for Freescale’s Networking Systems Division.

Spirit DSP, a provider of voice and video software engines, and RMI, a supplier of multi-core, multi-threaded processors for communications and rich media applications since 1996 is used in over 80 countries and powers more than 100 million voice channels. With more than 60 percent share of the global market, SPIRIT counts among its customers Adobe, ARM, AT&T, Blizzard, BT, China Mobile, Cisco, Compal, Ericsson, HP, HTC, Huawei, Korea Telecom (News - Alert), Kyocera, LG-Nortel, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle, Polycom, Quanta, Radvision, Reigncom, Samsung, Siemens, DSP Group, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, ZTE (News - Alert), and 200-plus other telcos, OEMs, semiconductors and software vendors.

The company, as TMCnet reported, recently signed partnership and platform license agreement to deliver high quality voice and video over IP for RMI’s Alchemy Processor (News - Alert) family, an advanced MIPS-compatible processor solution.

Spirit DSP has landed China-based networking giant Huawei Technologies. Huawei will license SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit 3.0 Voice Engine PC, which enhanced the voice quality for VoIP calls.

Alex Kravchenko, vice president of sales and marketing at SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert), said, “Huawei’s choice underscores the enormous demand for wideband VoIP. TeamSpirit Voice Engine PC is backed by award-winning proprietary technology that offers unprecedented quality. We are proud to partner with such a significant player in the global market to help operators to attract new customers and deliver new exciting, rich, interactive, multimedia services on market demand.”
