Vringo Updates Free Video Ringtone Application

By Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor

Vringo, a video sharing community allowing mobile users to create customized video ringtones, has announced version 2.0, an update to its free video ringtone application for Symbian- and J2ME-enabled phones.

With Vringo (News - Alert) 2.0, finding and sharing video ringtones is easier than ever. Users gain a more streamlined way to manage their ringtone collection, as well as a highly visual experience, with high resolution video images, and video previews.

Users can create or take video, images and slideshows from virtually anywhere, including Vringo’s library of 4,000 video ringtone clips or the Web, and turn them into their personal call signatures.

Vringo 2.0 also enables high-quality video, and makes it easy for users to record and share their own original ringtone via their phones’ cameras.  With Vringo’s social VringForward technology, users can select the ringtones their friends will see when they call.

Mobile users select the clips they want their friends to view and they choose the clips they would like you to see. Vringo clips are from the best of movies, TV and music, or created by users, either online or on their mobile phone.

To sign up for this free service, users simply click the join now link on the Vringo  homepage. Keep in mind that you must be over 13 years old in order to become a member. After typing in your mobile phone number click “Send Vringo to my phone,” and an SMS message will be sent to you with a special URL to finish installing the application.

“Video is one of the fastest growth areas in mobile, yet one area is continuously overlooked: the ringtone,” said Jon Medved, Vringo CEO. “With Vringo 2.0, we’re making it simpler and more intuitive for mobile users to personalize the gateway to their phone with high-quality video.”
Last month, Vringo 2.0 was available on a limited basis for free, and gained attention from CNET Download, which said, “The company’s fun and unusual product is just getting better and better.” Vringo 2.0 will be available for Windows Mobile devices later this month.

Thanks to the company’s announcement today, a wide variety of Symbian (News - Alert) and Java devices will now be able to benefit from Vringo.

Vringo will be showcasing its innovative mobile applications at the GSMA/Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) held in Barcelona, February 16-19, 2009 in hall 7, booth 7B57.

The company was founded in 2006 and is transforming the basic act of making and receiving mobile phone calls into a highly visual, social experience.

Compatible with more than 200 handsets, Vringo’s application enables users to create or take video, images and slideshows from virtually anywhere, to create their personal call signature.

Vringo has received acclaim by The New York Times as “the next big thing in ringtones” and by USA Today as having “to be seen to be believed.”
