By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Spice Telecom, a mobile operator in India, has deployed Veraz ControlSwitch and I-Gate 4000 media gateways for a national and international MPLS-based long distance network, the company said.

The deployment of Veraz platform Spice is expected to have a flexible IP-based solution that would help it to protect and improve voice profitability via efficient network operations and a twelvefold increase in voice capacity. A single ControlSwitch is spanning sixteen sites throughout northern India, with SS7 signaling and EMS module redundancy in two sites for full disaster recovery.

“We chose Veraz because it is a true IP-based solution, with impressive versatility and flexibility in its switch, and tremendous bandwidth optimization coupled with excellent voice quality in its gateways,” said RK Singh, president, Spice Telecom, in a statement. “The Veraz ControlSwitch, I-Gate 4000, and outstanding deployment services have exceeded our expectations by enabling us to accelerate our time to revenue.”

Spice Telecom, the brand name of Spice Communications Limited is presently operating Cellular Phone Services in the states of Punjab and Karnataka. Spice Telecom has been promoted by Modi Wellvest Private Limited. Telecom Malaysia is a 39% stakeholder in Spice Telecom.

Wipro (News - Alert) Infotech, a leader in providing system integration, network integration and IT services, has deployed this turn key solution for Spice Telecom on the Veraz platform, along with interconnect billing and Lawful Interception.

A comprehensive 24 x 7 NOC (News - Alert) is setup for complete life cycle support for Spice, providing tools like network performance dashboard, network monitoring capabilities, and reports.

“Spice is an innovative and forward thinking operator in a growing market,” said Amit Chawla, EVP Global Business Units.

“We are pleased to deliver a solution that not only enables Spice to enhance their profitability and customer retention but also provides the requisite flexibility to quickly add new services going forward.”

Veraz is a global provider of IP softswitches, media gateways and digital compression products that enable voice, video and other multimedia services.

Wireline, broadband and wireless service providers in over 50 countries have deployed Veraz’s IP product suite to transport, convert and manage voice and multimedia traffic over both legacy and IP networks.

Veraz products allow service providers to migrate from traditional voice networks to all-IP, fixed-mobile and multimedia networks consistent with emerging IMS standards.
