New Global Telecom Provides SafeCall E911 for VoIP Service
By Mae Kowalke, Associate Editor
Late last year, New Global Telecom (NGT) launched its SafeCall E911 service, an FCC-compliant E911 capability for the company’s 6DegreesIP VoIP product suite.
6DegreesIP is a wholesale-hosted VoIP product for CLECs, ISPs, and Tier 1 and 2 service providers. The SafeCall capability means that NGT customers can enjoy the nomadic advantages of VoIP within an extensive E911 service area that encompasses 60 percent of the U.S. population.
SafeCall provides enhanced information-including a caller’s phone number and registered location address-to an emergency services operator whenever a subscriber dials 9-1-1.
“SafeCall E911 is a comprehensive service providing end-users with an enhanced degree of safety and security,” said NGT President and CEO Rich Grange, in a press release. “The FCC challenged the VoIP industry to rapidly meet a high standard for 911 service. I am very pleased with the innovative work that our team, together with our strategic partners, has put toward successfully meeting this challenge.”
In 2004, NGT began work with Intrado to implement a nomadic VoIP 911 service, in advance of the FCC’s Order.
The SafeCall E911 solution is a modified version of NGT’s former nomadic 911 service, which was established in 2004.
