Mobile service provider T-Mobile ( News - Alert) this week added two new phones to its Sidekick product line—the Sidekick LX and the Sidekick Slide—available in October and November, respectively.
Associated Press reported that Sidekick LX will sell for $300 with a two-year contract, starting Oct. 17. T-Mobile described the “coming soon” phone as featuring a sleeker and slimmer design, high-def swivel LCD screen about the size of a credit card, camera with flash and mood lights for use with user-set alerts. The device also include Bluetooth .
Also worth noting for Sidekick LX is that it’s the first phone in this product family to allow text messages with photos attached, AP said.
With the new Sidekick LX, T-Mobile is promoting its recently-announced MySpace Mobile software, designed specifically for the Sidekick product family.
“The MySpace Mobile software is tightly integrated with the T-Mobile Sidekick hardware, user interface, and all the applications on the device,” T-Mobile said in a Sept. 20 announcement about the new application.
T-Mobile’s other new phone is the Sidekick Slide, a device manufactured by Motorola ( News - Alert) rather than Sharp Corp., AP said. Unlike the other Sidekick devices, this one features a screen that slides up to uncover the keyboard instead of swiveling.
According to AP, Sidekick Slide will sell for $200 with a two-year contract, starting Nov. 17. Prototype images of the Slide were posted to many technology news sites and blogs mid-week, but as of early Wednesday afternoon T-Mobile had not yet posted any information about the phone on its Web site.
