In a bid to further enhance the functionality of dual-mode WiFi ( News - Alert)/CDMA handsets, Kyocera Wireless Corp., and PCTEL ( News - Alert) Inc. have partnered on a Voice Call Continuity (VCC) solution that will make the handoff of active calls between the two air interfaces seamless.
As per their partnership the two providers will bring together their solutions to make it possible to switch between WiFi and CDMA without having to sacrifice quality or functionality of the device or calling experience.
Kyocera offers CDMA wireless devices and accessories while PCTEL provides wireless broadband solutions.
More specifically, Kyocera's CDMA, user interface and SMS features and PCTEL's VoIP , SMS over VoIP will be combined. The solution will also utilize PCTEL's Roaming Client, Voice Enabled (VE), an IMS-ready software client to allow for single number roaming and active call handover.
Biju Nair, vice president and general manager of PCTEL's Mobility Solutions Group commented on the collaboration in a statement to the press, "Dual-mode phones with roaming and call hand-over capabilities deliver powerful advantages to consumer and enterprise markets. Our effort with Kyocera demonstrates a market-ready IMS voice application on a mass-market dual-mode handset."
