AeroScout Intros WiFi-Based Temperature Monitoring for Healthcare Agencies

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

AeroScout reportedly has announced a packaged wireless temperature monitoring solution to be distributed by Comstor (News - Alert), a business unit of Westcon Group. This enables Cisco Systems Inc. channel partners and resellers to provide a packaged WiFi (News - Alert)-based temperature monitoring solution to healthcare organizations.

Healthcare organizations are always on the lookout for technology that helps them increase efficiency. At the same time, they want technologies to be affordable, as the healthcare sector struggles in this down economy. AeroScout’s solution not only helps organizations improve patient safety and regulatory compliance, but also reduces the cost of deployment, since there’s no need for hard wires or dedicated sensor network.

The solution has all the required components such as AeroScout MobileView Software, Global Services and Support, Cisco 3350 Mobility Services Engine, AeroScout Temperature Sensor Tags and Accessories, and Cisco Context-Aware (News - Alert) Software License.

“We want to enable Cisco channels around the world to improve patient safety and regulatory compliance for their customers in a simple and cost-efficient manner,” said Chuck Pledger, vice president of global channels at AeroScout. “Bringing together Cisco’s (News - Alert) leadership in unified wireless networks, Comstor’s global distribution expertise and AeroScout’s leadership in healthcare visibility solutions, we’re able to provide Cisco channel partners with a turnkey wireless temperature monitoring solution.”

The combined solution offers benefits such as: improved quality of care and reduced spoilage of refrigerated items; rapid deployment by leveraging existing WiFi networks; compliance with temperature data collection requirements; automated temperature monitoring and logging; and Protection of customers’ investments in their Cisco wireless networks.

The company recently announced a new Humidity Monitoring solution and two new Temperature Sensor Tags, designed to enhance its existing Condition Monitoring solution. The new AeroScout T5h Tag has an integrated humidity and temperature sensor and sends regular updates over the WiFi network of the measured relative humidity and temperature. These battery-powered tags are easily mounted on walls in specific rooms and require no hard wiring.
