AeroScout Adds Humidity Monitoring, Temperature Sensor Tags

Apr 08, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- AeroScout, a provider of Unified Asset Visibility for the healthcare industry, announced a new Humidity Monitoring solution and two new Temperature Sensor Tags, designed to enhance its existing Condition Monitoring solution.

Humidity monitoring is vital in hospital environments, such as in operating rooms, patient rooms and medical and surgical supply rooms. High humidity levels can promote the growth of mold, fungus and mites and lead to respiratory infections, thus creating unsafe conditions for both patients and staff. High humidity can also lead to sterilization problems for stored surgical equipment. The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies require hospitals to conduct routine checks of humidity, maintain records of humidity levels and log the corrective actions taken when levels exceed acceptable ranges. Manual humidity monitoring, however, can be a time-consuming and unreliable process. With the new AeroScout Humidity Monitoring solution, healthcare providers can automatically and accurately monitor humidity levels in sensitive environments, saving time and improving results.

The new AeroScout T5h Tag has an integrated humidity and temperature sensor and sends regular updates over the Wi-Fi network of the measured relative humidity and temperature. These battery-powered tags are easily mounted on walls in specific rooms and require no hard wiring. AeroScout MobileView software is the front-end application for humidity monitoring and provides hospital map views displaying humidity levels in rooms, automated alerts for out-of-range humidity levels and sophisticated reporting and logging tools to facilitate regulatory compliance.

AeroScout is also introducing two new Temperature Sensor Tags. The Wi-Fi Tags have an external temperature probe connected by a cable and come in two models: - T5b Tag for accurately measuring temperatures as low as -70 degrees Celsius - T5c Tag for accurately measuring temperatures as low as -100 degrees Celsius The new tags are able to monitor very low temperatures at which sensitive materials such as bacteria, DNA, cells and tissues must be stored. In addition, the temperature probes can be used for "potting," in cases where it is required to place the sensor probe in liquid that has similar thermal properties to the monitored item.

Since the AeroScout solution leverages existing hospital Wi-Fi networks, it enables rapid deployment with the lowest total cost of ownership and does not require a dedicated sensor network. The new Condition Monitoring products further enhance the capabilities of AeroScout's Unified Asset Visibility solution, which provides true enterprise visibility over a single infrastructure for the location, status and condition of assets and people.

"These new products extend our healthcare market leadership position by enabling us to offer a comprehensive Condition Monitoring solution for all of a healthcare organization's needs," said Gabi Daniely, vice president of marketing and product strategy at AeroScout. "We continue to develop mission-critical solutions that leverage standard Wi-Fi networks for our healthcare customers, enabling them to gain additional value from their investments and improve patient safety."
