SMC Networks has announced availability of a number of products to complement the company’s WiFi phones. The company has rolled out two cradles to keep the phones charged, and one of them features an integrated wireless access point. The SMCDPCR WiFi (News - Alert) phone cradle and SMCDPCR-AP cradle/access point will be available in December, and the company’s Skype-enabled WiFi phone has been available since August.

The new WiFi telephony accessories provide users with a way to store and charge their SMC WiFi phones at home or in the office. The cradle/access point offers built-in 802.11g wireless access points for keeping WiFi phones charged and ready on the desktop. Each cradle features an LED on the front to let users now that the phone is properly seated, in the cradle and charging. Additional LEDs on the cradle/access point signal the presence of LAN and Internet signals.

The cradle/access point accessory keeps the phone charged and ready, and also offers a 10/100 MB Ethernet port on the back to create an 802.11g access point so users have a close-by and optimal signal for VoIP calling. Nearby clients may also access the network through the accessory as well. The device offers two SSIDs to ensure optimum performance for voice calls over IP while still serving regular clients. One SSID is for VoIP calls, while the other is for regular wireless clients. It also features an easy setup wizard and Web-based management as well as WPA and WPA2 security.
