Mobile search is growing in importance for both businesses and consumers as it provides the ability to locate local services and get relevant results much faster. In addition, it gives advertisers interested in targeted local advertising a new way to reach consumers.
Mobile internet searching is convenient and maximizes the usage of mobile phones for more than just making phone calls. The services also encourage the purchase of more data service packages.
To locate live search results, users enter their zip code, address, city or state for targeted results. The company also noted plans to offer automatic user location in future versions.
"Consumers who search for "sports" on their wireless phone can search all of Sprints content relating to sports, such as ringtones, wallpapers and applications with "Sports" in the titles, as well as relevant advertisements from local businesses," the company noted.
The keyword search capabilities make it easier to search for targeted results and get needed information more efficiently.
Beyond delivering highly relevant content, the development of their integrated solutions is providing enhanced functionality to business users and future services will provide more revenue generating solutions.
Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft said in a statement, "...with Sprint's strong history of enabling Internet services on phones and Microsoft's expertise in delivering software plus services, we are excited about the opportunities this alliance can bring to further promote live services across devices that help people get the information they want, when they want it, where they are."
In an effort to catch up with the competition, this announcement follows search engine Google's (
