In a bid to improve wireless services for several of their business processes, AT&T (

Alert) Inc. has been chosen by US Airways.
As part of a two-year $6 million contract, AT&T will offer support for a wireless solution that "addresses' US Airways' cargo tracking service needs at more than 85 airports nationwide."
As per the agreement, which renews and expands a long-standing relationship between the two companies of more than 10 years, AT&T is offering wireless solutions to be added to US Airways mix of voice and IP-based data and networking services used for its domestic operations and call center.
US Airways will make use of the wireless services for corporate email through BlackBerry (
News -
Alert), to support voice service for domestic and international corporate business travel.
AT&T's wireless network will also be used by US Airways to track data for customers' shipments in real-time thanks to the use of hand-held barcode scanners that will be wirelessly connected to the AT&T network.
"In a move to optimize and improve our tracking of cargo shipments, we sought a reliable and consistent solution," said Joe Beery, US Airways' senior vice president and chief information officer in a statement to the press.
"AT&T brings the benefit of wireless advantages to the solution and enhances our agility and high-quality standards to our customer service philosophy."
