As per the acquisition, Sprint customers will retain Wi-Fi access in the seven airports as well as gain access to 16 additional airports where Boingo provides Wi-Fi services directly.
Boingo has also lowered the price of one day access (24 hrs.) to $7.95 and announced plans to expand further bandwidth for airports in a bid to deliver an improved user experience and to provide business travelers with "the speed they need."
"Travelers need fast, reliable Internet access wherever they are, and they need to know they can get connected wherever they're going," said Dave Hagan, CEO and president of Boingo Wireless in a statement.
"In providing the Wi-Fi service at 23 major airports, we're bringing each and every passenger an option for convenient Wi-Fi access at their point of departure; by enabling access at more than 100,000 hotspots around the world, we ensure their ability to connect again at their ultimate destination."
Boingo offers travelers needing access to Wi-Fi an Unlimited monthly access plan for $21.95, a Boingo Global plan offering worldwide travelers a $39-per-month-flat-rate plan to access their worldwide hotspots, and a Boingo Mobile plan for access to the Internet on non-PC devices for $7.95 per month.
The companies have also entered into a roaming
agreement to provide Sprint customers with access to Boingo's global hotspot network.
With this acquisition, Boingo has increased the number of airport networks it, and its Concourse subsidiary operate from 16 to 23.
"As the world leader in wireless network installations in airports, we understand what it takes to deliver high quality service," said Hagan. "We're diversifying Boingo's service base, creating new revenue streams, and bringing seven more airports and thousands of travelers within the fold of the world's largest aggregated network of more than 100,000 hotspots."
