Diabetes Foundation Embraces Video with Help of Cisco, Verizon Business The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International has tapped Cisco Systems and Verizon Business to provide it with technology to improve coordination within its extensive network of employees, volunteers, advocates and corporate partners. JDRF will now be able to disseminate effectively information announcing research advancements, industry partnerships and advocacy campaigns. Cisco is providing the JDRF with its WebEx solution. All JDRF employees will have a webcam for on-demand video calls and collaboration sessions. Verizon's private IP network will be used as the underlying transport for that, supporting intermittent video transmissions by offering quality and class of service as well as bandwidth-on-demand capabilities. JDRF will make use of Verizon's IP trunking service with Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks over Verizon Private IP.
Online Presence Makeover Wins Accolades for Polycom Polycom Inc., a provider of telepresence, video and voice communications solutions, has again been named to an annual listing of the nation's 500 most innovative users of business technology. This is the second consecutive year that Polycom has earned this recognition. This year Polycom was honored for its next-gen Web project. The project involved the retooling of the company's online presence, including a number of intranet and extranet sites. The goal of the project was to "change radically" the online experience for Polycom's customers, partners and employees, says Polycom CIO Glenn Noga, adding that the effort led to significant cost savings due to streamlined and improved globalization practices. Additionally, employees, partners and customers benefit from the improved access to information and the time saved accessing that information online.
VoLGA Helps LTE Providers Bring Voice Aboard The VoLGA Forum, a group promoting voice over LTE via generic access technology, has published the first complete set of voice over LTE specifications, which will help mobile operatorsto deliver voice and SMS messaging services over LTE access networks. It is available on the group's Web site. The technology is based on the existing 3GPP "Generic Access Network" standard and will allow mobile subscribers to receive a consistent set of voice, SMS and other circuit-switched services as they switch between GSM, UMTS and LTE access networks.
BroadSoft to Power Cyprus Telecom Hosted PBX Services Cyprus Telecommunication Authority is deploying BroadSoft Inc.'s IMS-based Broadband Telephony IP Centrex services. The services will fall under the umbrella of Fixed Mobile Convergent services delivered to CYTA's customers in Cyprus and in Greece via its subsidiary Cyta Hellas. BroadSoft's IP Centrex service will be deployed in the coming months. This service will be provided as a hosted PBX service for enterprises of all sizes.
New Mobiles will Challenge Smartphones Forward Concepts' latest market research survey, "Ultra Mobile Device & Chip Market Opportunities," reports that ultra mobile devices, mobile Internet devices and smartbooks are poised to displace smartphones primarily, and, to a lesser extent, netbooks and notebook PCs, as niche market leaders by 2014. Research analysts at the firm claim that these new age technology devices, especially smartbooks, are eliciting significant customer interest because they address a gap between high-end smartphones and netbooks.
RIM's BlackBerry Goes on an Odyssey Odyssey Software Inc., a provider of enterprise-class mobile device management products, has announced the expansion of its Athena mobile device management product. Athena will now include support for Research In Motion's BlackBerry. With this new enhancement to the Athena solution, enterprises will be able to integrate mobile device management through a single console. This move will complement and extend the BES/BIS capabilities to existing enterprise management platforms, such as Configuration Manager 2007. The new BlackBerry tools are designed to complement the full functionality of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service, the company said. Athena currently offers remote control, provisioning and asset reporting for Windows mobile and Windows embedded devices without additional infrastructure.
ClearOne Floats New CHAT 160 for Skype ClearOne, a provider of audio conferencing solutions, has launched a new group speakerphone called "CHAT 160" - specifically designed for use with Skype software. The Skype Certified CHAT 160 is an addition to the company's USB speakerphones and offers high-quality, hands-free audio communication for individuals or groups using Skype. The full-duplex device, which connects to laptops or PCs via USB, houses three sensitive microphones, providing 360-degree pickup for Skype users.
Noetica Introduces SYNTHESYS Version 4.1 Noetica, a London-based provider of customer interaction management solutions for the contact center, has announced an upgrade to its Noetica SYNTHESYS solution. The Noetica SYNTHESYS 4.1 has been equipped with a new interface and more than 25 new features. This update is aimed at achieving enhanced streamlining and effective managing and measuring of business processes performed by agents in the contact center. Several other new features have been incorporated into the solution, which include integrated agent, operational and campaign reporting, "Agent Call Diary" for one-to-one relationship management, real-time performance metric tracking via an agent dashboard and the ability to control third-party applications from within the Noetica SYNTHESYS agent front end.
