AVST Unveils CallXpress 7.91 for Unified Communications

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Applied Voice & Speech Technologies (AVST (News - Alert)) has unveiled a new version of its flagship Unified Communications solution, CallXpress 7.91. This new release is designed to enhance AVST’s powerful Unified Communications (News - Alert) platform.

Enhancements are the result of a variety of new features that address the needs of multi-site organizations and market demands for greater capacity and interoperability with the latest IP-PBX, groupware and server technology.

Corporate mergers and acquisitions continue to proliferate throughout a host of industries, increasing the need to support mixed PBX (News - Alert) environment. Geographically dispersed offices are also on the rise, contributing to increased demand.

Couple these trends with recent end-of-life announcements for legacy voice mail platforms and corporate demands for greater capacity and more flexibility and it becomes clear why IT decision makers are challenged to find the right solution for their unique environments.

The CallXpress 7.91 is designed to simplify the problem with a series of new features that address these market demands including redesign Digital Networking, new IP integrations and a new Nortel (News - Alert) Meridian Mail Telephone User Interface (TUI) emulation.

Digital Networks allows organizations with geographically dispersed offices to network multiple systems together and send messages back and forth across systems. Considered new “star architecture,” it provides a more robust, reliable and cost-effective solution that includes increased capacity and the elimination of a separate digital networking server at each location.

CallXpress also offers administrators the ability to manage subscribers of all CallXpress servers from a single global view.

"Enterprise organizations are facing a myriad of complex issues regarding the deployment of next-generation Unified Communications solutions in a mixed TDM and IP-PBX environment," said AVST's Vice President of Product Management, Tom Minifie, in a Tuesday statement.

Minifie continued: "A recent survey from a Business Communication Review NetSeminar sponsored by AVST revealed that 74 percent of organizations had two or more unique PBX systems to support. This makes for a wide range of issues regarding the deployment of next generation solutions as organizations strive to protect their existing infrastructure as they make the transition to IP-telephony."

To address this challenge, AVST offers more than 250 TDM and IP integrations with the ability to support multiple switches on a single CallXpress platform. The new release expects to extend AVST’s position in offering the broadest range of IP integrations with new or updated support for Sphere Sphericall SIP, Dialogic (News - Alert) 1000 Media Gateway (DMG), Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise SIP, Cisco Unified Communications Manager SCCP, and Nortel CS1000 SIP.

"AVST prides itself on delivering best-in-class UC solutions to the large enterprise or multi-site organizations. CallXpress 7.91 demonstrates not only our innovative capabilities, but also our ability to understand and anticipate the needs for scalability and centralization in today's fast-paced, ever-changing environments," Minifie added.

Currently in field trail, CallXpress is scheduled for general availability in the next 90 days through AVST’s established reseller channels. The company has an extensive list of partners that sell and support its unified communications solutions throughout the world.

Organizations throughout the world are recognizing the benefits of unified communications and in mixed environments, yet the demand does not always perfectly balance the need. To address this challenge, AVST delivers its CallXpress to ensure that unified communications can become a reality, not matter the environment.

This functionality will find large appeal throughout multiple industries as the demand for unified communications in mixed environments continues to grow. Once this new version of CallXpress is ready for general availability, it is likely to see rapid adoption.
