PIKA Selects Commetrex TechnologyBy Michelle Robart, TMCnet Editor At the ITEXPO in Los Angeles, Commetrex today announced that PIKA Technologies (News - Alert) has chosen Commetrex technology to support the addition of V.34 fax to its media-processing portfolio including support for its PrimnetMM, DaytonaMM, and InlineMM board-level analog and digital telephony products.
According to PIKA, it expects to release the new capability before the end of 2008.
Thanks to its partnership with Commetrex (News - Alert), PIKA's product line has provided fax support for its PC-based DSP telephony boards for the last six years. The highest-speed modem offered on Daytona has been V.17, which has a top speed of 14,400 bps. As long-distance callers benefit from significant cost savings, the Commetrex release of V.34 fax to its OEM customers means that the data rate of fax transactions can more than double to 33,600 bps, cutting image-transfer times by one-half.
PIKA's Vice President of Technology and Operations, Tom Duxbury, said, "We have been a user of Commetrex' fax technologies, including T.30, image- conversion, and fax-modems for many years. When they released their highly anticipated V.34 modem, it was an easy decision for us to upgrade our technology. We've also taken a future option to acquire Commetrex' industry- leading TerminatingT38 and PowerRelay for T.38 products." Commetrex develops and markets enabling technologies for the gateway and media-server telecom OEM, as well as ready-to-deploy fax applications, BladeWare Fax Media Server (FMS), BladeWare Fax2Email, and BladeWare Email2Fax. The company is well known for its innovative fax and other licensed media- processing technologies. Commetrex recently announced its 75th T.38 FoIP customer. Commetrex's list of licensees is a “who's who” of the telecom industry, including LSI/Agere, Iperia, Genband, Castelle, Lucent, Sonus, OpenWave, Nortel, Broadsoft, Siemens, ShoreTel, Avaya (News - Alert), Empirix, Logica, and Movius. Commetrex is currently enhancing the BladeWare product family by introducing comprehensive voice capabilities with its BladeWare (VXML) initiative.
For more than 20 years, PIKA Technologies has been providing developers with the tools they need to build advanced voice and fax applications like IP PBX (News - Alert), fax broadcast and self-service IVR.
