XO Communications' New Guarantee: "Ethernet Everywhere"By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor XO Communications, a nationwide provider of advanced communications services and solutions, announced the launch of “Ethernet Everywhere,” an initiative that guarantees Ethernet services to its carrier services customers within XO’s coverage area.
This unique guarantee offer, available through the end of 2009, is offered to any carrier services customer that chooses up to 10Mbps Ethernet service within one of XO's 42 Ethernet-enabled local access and transport areas, or “LATAs.”
XO offers Ethernet access solutions ranging from 3Mbps up to 10Gbps. The service supports a variety of services such as private line, dedicated Internet access, and Multi-Protocol Label Switching, or “MPLS,” IP-VPN.
Ernie Ortega, president of XO Carrier Services, said it’s well understood that the largest problem facing the industry with Ethernet is its lack of widespread availability.
“This revolutionary guarantee demonstrates XO's continued commitment to meeting the latest demands of the market, and Ethernet certainly fits that mold,” Ortega said.
XO has been offering a number of XO Carrier Service guarantees. For example, the “10 Gigs in 10 Days” offer promised wholesale customers installation of up to 10Gbps transport service within 10 business days. A recently introduced Wavelength FLEX program gives customers the ability to respond to evolving business and network demands without incurring additional costs.
The company has been actively executing its strategic long-term plan for expansion. In the last two years alone, XO has invested more than $450 million to grow and enhance its infrastructure, resulting in a footprint covering nearly half of all businesses in the United States.
Previously, XO announced a partnership with Juniper Networks (News - Alert) to deploy that company’s MX960 Ethernet Services Routers in major metropolitan locations throughout the nation to deliver a three-fold increase in capacity across the edge of the XO IP network.
Such investments have enabled XO to respond quickly to customer demands and become a leading, more agile provider of the most advanced, high-capacity network services available.
