By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Verizon Business has introduced integrated communications, security and IT solutions during the first quarter of 2009. Agreements with multinational corporations, regional players and government agencies for advanced communications and IT solutions were also finalized.

The first quarter 2009 has witnessed a 7.5 percent increase in the sales of strategic services ($1.5 billion) from the first quarter 2008. Verizon (News - Alert) Business has added a new portfolio of converged solutions to address the security and performance challenges faced by large corporations. These include Virtual Discovery and Classification service, Vulnerability Management Service for Data Center Colocation customers and Secure Virtualization Design service.

The suite of in-the-cloud Denial of Service (DOS) Defense solutions to Canada was extended along with the expansion of its proactive Detection Service to 14 European and eight Asia-Pacific countries. A fully automated Risk-Correlation Service that calculates risk and displays the results through an online scorecard was also rolled out during the first quarter of 2009.

A managed service that enables corporate users to control their unified communications from the desktop is another solution introduced by Verizon in the first quarter of 2009. Another capability enables large businesses and government agencies to immediately initiate conference calls from enterprise instant messaging applications. Enhancements done to IP Trunking will allow European-based companies to implement a centralized IP PBX hub in one European location and to extend VoIP services to other sites across multiple European countries.

An expanded suite of consulting and management services that will cover every aspect of virtualization as well as a single-source model for customers to procure equipment and other support services in 122 countries and territories have also been introduced.

Since 2006, Verizon Business (News - Alert) has invested more than $3 billion in enhancing its global IP network. The first quarter of 2009 witnessed an approval from the government of India's Department of Telecommunications to operate its two international gateways in Mumbai and Chennai. Telekom Malaysia (News - Alert) Berhad and Verizon Business will also collaborate to develop a new Internet protocol node to support the delivery of advanced data services to Malaysian-headquartered companies, and multinational companies with operations in Malaysia. The first quarter also saw the deployment of a technologically advanced network configuration in Singapore to give large-business and government customer’s enhanced reliability for customer voice-and-data traffic and more diverse routes to move mission-critical traffic.
