Samsung (News - Alert) has introduced a new recycling program for its series of professional laser printers, thus further fulfilling its commitment to environmental protection. The company’s new PrintCycle program offers recycling for printers and toner cartridges.


This program will help customers dispose of their printers in an environmentally-friendly way by offering them a three year “product refresh.” Users after three years can get a replacement from Samsung at the same price they bought their previous printer, as long as they turn in their old one in for recycling. The program was formulated to see that products are not “dumped” as “electronic junk.” The used products will be retrieved by Samsung for proper recycling. This program is part of Samsung’s PrintCentives campaign.

Samsung is already rated as one of the world’s top environmentally-friendly companies by Greenpeace. Jay Shears, Samsung's director of marketing and digital printing systems, said in a statement that by offering easy ways to help the business professional support environmentally safe options, Samsung is providing a great service in environmental protection.

The program also offers toner cartridge recycling. Toner cartridges will be remanufactured until they reach the end of their useful life. Just the same as the printer recycling program, the toner recycling program lets users get new cartridges at the same market price as their previous ones. The used toner cartridges will be de-manufactured and sorted by commodity type (such plastic) and then either re-used to make new products or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. The remanufactured toner cartridges are actually less expensive than the original cartridges.

Pressure to reduce of the amount of waste disposed of in landfills is pushing businesses to find new ways to recycle products. PrintCycle is offered through Samsung's PrintCentive Channel Resellers on the following Samsung professional printing systems:
