ON Semiconductor Expands Power MOSFET Portfolio
By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor
ON Semiconductor has launched 12 new power MOSFET devices that optimize dc-dc conversion and reduce power losses at critical current levels.
ON’s new 25 volt (V) and 30 V MOSFET devices are ideal for CPU , GPU, and system rail dc-dc conversion - for both low and high side switching in computing applications such as notebooks PCs, desktop PCs and gaming boxes.
These single and dual N-channel MOSFETs offer lower RDS(on), that minimizes power dissipation. In addition these devices provide low gate charge and low gate charge ratio that reduces conduction and switching losses. All these performance features help make the power subsystem more efficient.
Paul Leonard, vice president of the MOSFET Division for ON Semiconductor explained in a statement that when developing these new MOSFETs, they focused on helping their customers meet their specific computing power management needs. ON Semiconductor plans to continue expanding their MOSFET portfolio, specifically for advancing computing and portable applications.
Leonard added that when combined with ON Semiconductor’s advanced dual-edge controllers, their MOSFETs enable customers to implement complete power subsystems using active components from a single global source.
ON Semiconductor is offering four MOSFET devices in a SOIC-8 package for use in notebook computers. These are priced between $0.35 and $0.53 per unit in quantities of 2,500 units. The company’s additional eight new MOSFET devices are offered in a DPAK package for use in desktop computers and gaming boxes. These MOSFET devices
are budgetary priced between $0.20 and $0.47 per unit in quantities of 2,500 units. All of these devices are RoHS compliant and are delivered in Pb-free packages.
Bill Schromm, senior vice president and general manager of ON Semiconductor’s Computing Products Group said that 2007 was a dynamic year for ON Semiconductor’s power management portfolio for computing applications.
The company successfully expanded their dual-edge controller and MOSFET portfolios to address both the PC and notebook markets, and acquired the voltage regulation and thermal monitoring products for computing applications from Analog Devices ( News - Alert), Inc. Schromm indicated that they plan to continue to introduce innovative computing products throughout 2008 that will further enable their customers to develop compact, cost-effective and energy-efficient power subsystems.
