Yahoo Launches Technology Section
By Niladri Sekhar Nath, TMCnet Contributing Editor
In a bid to keep consumers informed about the latest technological advancement, Yahoo Inc. is introducing a new section devoted to various technological aspects, reports The Associated Press.
The portal sub-section, called “Yahoo Tech,” will have 19 categories devoted to covering an extensive range of products such as laptop computers, digital cameras, high-definition television and cell phones.
Also included are product recommendations from Consumer Reports, PC World and PC Magazine. Yahoo has gathered information from the Web to enrich the section as well.
Not only that, Yahoo has appointed four advisers to offer daily updates. The advisers will offer information to diversified audiences on the basis of stereotypes — “The Mom,” “The Working Guy,” “Techie Diva” and “The Boomer.”
The company aims to present the information in a simple way. Users won’t have to be technology experts to understand the subject matter of Yahoo Tech.
“We want to free people from the tyranny of ‘geekspeak,’” The Associated Press quoted Patrick Houston, general manager for Yahoo Tech, as saying.
According to The Associated Press report, Yahoo has plans to enhance its video offerings in the tech section as well. The Sunnyvale, California-based Internet search engine is all set to introduce a weekly segment called “Hook Me Up” that will be hosted by Becky Worley.
Analysts are saying that, thanks to Yahoo Tech, Yahoo may soon become the most sought-after advertising vehicle for computer, phone and camera manufacturers.
The Internet advertising market is on the rise. With the launch of Yahoo Tech, the company has intensified the rivalry to grab the bigger market share.
