TranSwitch to Intro High Definition Multimedia Interface for DTV

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

TranSwitch announced that it will introduce its latest high definition multimedia interface for next generation digital television and home theatre applications at an upcoming trade show.

“Our new HD-PXL-1.4 cores have a major performance advantage over competitors who do not support the full suite of features included in the HDMI 1.4 specification or the maximum data rate that is required to support all extended resolutions,” said Amir Bar-Niv, vice president for systems and applications at TranSwitch (News - Alert).

In addition to 3D Video, HD-PXL-1.4 also includes support for new 4K super resolution displays. The capabilities of TranSwitch’s latest HDMI technology tap into the robust demand for affordable high performance video. Company officials said that this enables mass market consumption of electronics products, offering “unparallel” television viewing experiences that also bring video games to life.

The new HD-PXL-1.4 transmitter and receiver cores incorporate all of the features in the HDMI 1.4 specifications including the Audio Return Channel; HDCP version 1.4; and a full range of expanded color spaces. Company officials said that ARC eliminates the need for separate audio cables between the television set and the home theatre equipment.

“The transmitter and receiver HD-PXL-1.4 cores are available today in the TSMC 65nm process, and to round out our platform we intend to release 40nm version later this year, said Bar-Niv.

He also indicated that the company plans to introduce an HDMI 1.4 Ethernet Channel offering based on the widely deployed industry standard Ethernet PHY IP cores.

TranSwitch designs, develops and markets semiconductors and technologies that provide core functionality and complete solutions for voice, data and video communications network equipment.

In October 2009, the company announced that it shipped over 1 million chips from its Mustang product family, a class of Ethernet passive optical network protocol system-on-chips for optical networking unit applications.
