KDG Deploys Multiple Acme Packet Platforms for Voice over Cable ServicesBy Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor Kabel Deutschland GmbH (KDG), one of Germany's triple play providers, has deployed Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controllers (SBCs) on multiple hardware platforms for voice over cable services.
The SBCs are used to deliver first-class IP interactive communications to KDG’s residential customers and secure IP interconnects to other service providers. According to Acme Packet (News - Alert) officials, the company’s Net-Net SBCs are deployed to provide additional security, service reach maximization and SLA assurance for KDG’s recently implemented Kabel Phone service. “Acme Packet’s session border controllers and its support organization enabled us to go-to-market quickly with a compelling new voice product,” said Thorsten Waschkeit, Head of Voice Engineering from Kabel Deutschland, in a statement. Waschkeit said that the hardware flexibility of the Net-Net SBCs, along with an unmatched session border control feature set, enables KDG to support the company’s goals to deliver high customer satisfaction and create a competitive edge. “Kabel Deutschland is delivering compelling and high-quality triple play services to its customers,” explained Seamus Hourihan (News - Alert), vice president of marketing and product management at Acme Packet. Hourihan said that using multiple Acme Packet hardware platforms, the company’s session border controllers help solves critical challenges that Kabel Deutschland faced in delivering seamless, high-quality interactive communication services over its next-generation networks. Acme Packet, Inc., a major player in session border control solutions, enables the delivery of interactive communications—voice, video and multimedia sessions—and data services across IP network borders. The company’s Net-Net family of session border controllers, multiservice security gateways and session routing proxies supports multiple applications in service provider, large enterprise and contact center networks--from VoIP trunking to hosted enterprise and residential services to fixed-mobile convergence. They satisfy critical security, service assurance and regulatory requirements in wireline, cable and wireless networks and support multiple protocols—SIP, H.323, MGCP/NCS and H.248—and multiple border points—interconnect, access and data center. Earlier in March, Acme Packet announced that LightEdge, a hosted services provider dedicated to the communications and IT needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), had deployed Acme Packet’s Net-Net session border controller (SBC) to deliver its recently-announced Hosted Unified Communications (News - Alert), a new service based on BroadSoft’s BroadWorks VoIP application platform as well as Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration. LightEdge deployed Acme Packet SBCs to simplify new customer activation and enable “click-to-call” functionality in tandem with the BroadSoft (News - Alert) platform.
