tw telecom to Provide Data, Internet and Voice Services to US Army BaseBy Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor The U.S. Army has awarded a multi-year contract to tw telecom, a provider of managed voice, Internet and data networking solutions for businesses and government entities throughout the U.S., to install and manage data, Internet and voice services at Fort Bliss, located in western Texas and southern New Mexico. Through a competitive bid process that evaluated technical compliance, past performance and proposed costs, tw telecom (News - Alert) won the multi-year contract. By May 2011, installation of the services will be completed. "Fort Bliss is a vital asset to both the military and the states of Texas and New Mexico," said Kirk Jefferson, vice president and general manager for tw telecom in El Paso, in a press release. "We're proud that when evaluating benchmarks such as quality, reliability and cost, the Army's competitive bid process determined that tw telecom's solution was the best. We look forward to helping Fort Bliss continue to serve our nation proudly." Home to several brigades of the U.S. 1st Armored Division, the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command and the William Beaumont Hospital, Fort Bliss, a FORSCOM post has approximately 25,000 active-duty military personnel. It is currently undergoing the largest expansion of any military installation since World War II, and by 2014 it will be home to nearly 100,000 soldiers, family members and civilian support staff. More commercial buildings are connected by tw telecom to its fiber network than any other competitive communications provider, only exceeded by the large global incumbents. tw telecom has the third highest market share of retail Ethernet ports in service. With its own national fiber network and IP backbone, it has the national capability, robust product portfolio and national/local customer care teams to support mission critical enterprise applications and to deliver a sought-after customer experience. In related news, FirstCall Network, a National emergency alert notification provider, has selected tw telecom for a range of services including advanced voice, data and collocation services.
